Polycarbonate lenses have a thinner profile compared to regular plastic lenses because they have a higher index of refraction, which means they can bend light more efficiently. The index of polycarbonate is 1.59, which allows for thinner lenses even with stronger prescriptions. (Abbe Value 30)
Trivex
Trivex is a type of lens material that’s similar to polycarbonate but has some added benefits. Like polycarbonate, Trivex lenses are lightweight, strong, and impact-resistant, making them great for active people or for use in safety glasses. What sets Trivex apart is that it provides even clearer vision because of its higher optical quality. It also has a slightly lower index of refraction (1.53), meaning the lenses may be a little thicker than polycarbonate, but they’re still very light and comfortable to wear. (Abbe Value 44)
High Index Plastic 1.67
High index 1.67 plastic lenses are a type of eyeglass lens designed for people with stronger prescriptions. These lenses are thinner and lighter than regular lenses because they have a higher index of refraction (1.67), which means they bend light more efficiently. Even if you need a strong prescription, 1.67 high index lenses help reduce the thickness and weight, making your glasses more comfortable and less bulky. We highly recommend purchasing an Anti Reflective coating with the high index lenses since they reflect a considerably higher percentage of light than standard lenses. (Abbe Value 32).
In a nutshell, if you have a prescription below a -3, there isn’t really any reason to invest in high-index glasses because they won’t look any different to the human eye and there won’t be any real benefit to the higher-index lens. The standard lenses have a higher Abbe value, so the quality of vision will be far superior. The difference between 1.67, which is considered regular index and 1.74 is quite small, and really, the only way you’ll notice the difference is if you have a prescription below a -6 or above a +4. However, if you are in need of a very strong prescription, it is absolutely worth the additional cost! Your glasses will be more comfortable and more flattering, and that will improve your quality of life overall.
High Index Plastic 1.74

1.60 High Index glass lenses will be an excellent option for mid-strength or ordinary eyeglasses prescriptions. The 1.60 glass lenses are thinner than standard 1.523 glass lenses and still offer High Optical quality and scratch resistance. These lenses make a great option if you value a thinner look and lightweight comfort in your eyewear. (Abbe value 44)
High Index Glass 1.7
1.70 High Index glass lenses will be an excellent option for mid-strength or high eyeglasses prescriptions. The 1.70 glass lenses are thinner than standard 1.523 or 1.60 glass lenses and still offer the Highest Optical quality and scratch resistance. High Index 1.90 Glass lenses are for the strongest prescriptions and are only available for eyeglasses. If your Prescription is not higher than a -8.00 or a +6.00 1.90, lenses are not for you. 1.90 Lenses are the Highest index lenses offered on the market. We Only Recommend 1.90 glass lenses for frames with small lenses to reduce the weight of your glasses because we’ve found that overall eyeglass weight plays a significant role in overall comfort.
