Most of our standard laser safety glasses are created with specific, commonly-used lasers in mind. Flat glass specialty filters, on the other hand, are for if you are using or designing a laser which operates at an atypical wavelength or power, and they are also good if you need an especially high VLT or are using some combinations of lasers.
