Glass
Of course, the first option is the old-fashioned glass lens. If you’ve been around for long enough, you know that this used to be the only type of lens that glasses-wearers had to choose from. While it’s less common to see actual glass lenses nowadays, they have their perks. Glass provides the clearest sight for the wearer and is scratch-proof. Of course, if the lens breaks, it shatters, so glass lenses aren’t an option for children.
High-index
For those who have prescriptions above +/- 2.00, we recommend high-index lenses. These lenses are lighter and slimmer than regular plastic and bend light more efficiently. For those who are heavily near-sighted or heavily far-sighted, this kind of lens is often the best option.
Polycarbonate
These lenses are lighter and slimmer than regular plastic lenses. Polycarbonate lenses are recommended for people with prescriptions ranging from +/- 2.00 to +/-4.00. Unlike Trivex lenses, these are injection-molded and are more available to customers.
Trivex
Trivex is a cast-molded plastic lens that offers better scratch and shock resistance. Trivex lenses tend to be about 10 percent thinner and 10 percent lighter than polycarbonate lenses. Because of these improved features, they tend to be more costly than polycarbonate lenses.
