Why do so many people choose polarized lens?

What is a polarized lens?

Polarized Lens filter light in an atypical way. This improves your vision, and decreases the chance of you being distracted by annoying or blinding reflections.

A physicist from the past would tell you light is a type of traveling particle. They’d be mistaken. Modern physicists discovered that light travels as waves, similar to radio waves. Due to this, light can have an orientation… For example, some light that reaches your eyes is “waving”, straight up and downward, while some is “waving”, left to right.

By removing these waves, polarized lenses reduce the amount of light reaching your eyes. Modern science has discovered that reflected light or “glare” tends to “wave”. They have developed a film with tiny molecules arranged in a way to block the light in this direction. This results in a clearer view of bright sunlight and less glare.

Keep it simple: Here’s why polarized glasses and lenses are great.

  • Polarized sunglasses reduce the amount of glare in your eyes and improve your vision.
  • Driving is safer with polarized sunglasses because they reduce the amount of light reflected from cars and roads.
  • Polarized sunglasses reduce the amount of light reflected off water. This allows fisherman to see better into the water and water sport enthusiasts to take a break from the constant sunlight on the water.
  • The “haze” you see on sunny, hot days is caused by scattered light, typically from dust or water particles in the air.
  • You can get them in prescription too! Prescription polarized shades are the best way to improve your vision. They increase visual acuity by improving your vision, and also by reducing scattered and reflected lights.
  • Many sunglasses have polarization, but for some people it can be detrimental to their outdoor activities or work. Non-polarized sunglasses are preferred by some people because they’re lighter and gentler. Although polarization is great for some people, it’s not suitable for all.
  • You may have noticed that wearing polarized glasses makes it difficult to view LCD screens and other digital screens. Your visual acuity and clarity in hazy, hot weather, as well as comfort under bright sunlight, were likely greatly improved.

When choosing between polarized and non-polarized sunglasses, what should you look for?

  • Polarized sunglasses block light that is scattered and stray from reaching your eyes. On hot, muggy days, this reduces haze and smog.
  • Polarized sunglasses reduce glare from surfaces such as cars, and can help you see more clearly in the water.
  • Polarized sunglasses darken the lenses, so they are the best choice for those who are sensitive to sunlight.
  • Polarized sunglasses reduce your ability to properly see digital screens, such as phones and GPS systems. You can’t use LCD screens at all.
  • Non-polarized sunglasses are available in many more shades and darkness levels than polarized glasses.
  • You can get non-polarized sunglasses with lenses that are very lightly colored. This allows you to wear sunglasses inside under good lighting.
  • Polarized sunglasses can be very useful for water sports, skiing and other activities where reflections of surfaces below your head can increase or almost double the amount light that reaches your eyes.

A pair of sunglasses with polarization is a great asset. The functionality and usefulness of the shades is increased. It’s worth considering polarized shades if you haven’t used them before.

When deciding whether or not to buy a pair of polarized sunnies, the best thing to do is to determine what you will use them for. Then look at the list above to decide which type of sunglasses you should purchase.
