Lampworking is a popular activity, and it has become an expressive way for numerous individuals to come up with beautiful pieces. However, regardless of it being a fun activity, it has its challenges, such as potentially causing eye damage due to shattering glass and harmful UV and infrared lights. Therefore, there is a significant need to have adequate safety education about the dangers of lampworking and the importance of having appropriate Lampworking glasses.

While purchasing lampworking glasses, there is a need to ascertain the type being purchased based on the materials used in the activity. For instance, some artists use soft glass, including soda-lime glass or lead glass, while others use borosilicate glass, or rather, hard glass. In most instances, people do not consider such factors and protect their eyes by wearing a pair of safety glasses or regular sunglasses. In a real sense, taking this approach would not cover the artist’s eyes while doing torch work, and sunglasses can be more harmful since they allow the pupil to open wider than usual.

We’ve got six ways to improve your Lampworking eyeglasses, including:

  • An artist needs to research the type of glass they are using, be it soft or borosilicate glass since they react differently at different temperatures.
  • There is an option of clip-on lenses, which would enhance the lampworking glasses’ effectiveness and even make them more affordable and convenient.
  • After ascertaining the type of glass used in the lampworking process, there will be a need to check the various options. For instance, if soft glass is used, the ideal glass will be Philips 202, which blocks UV lights and sodium flare.
  • If the glass in question is the borosilicate one, the ideal glasses will be the green ACE IR 3.0 and ACE IR 5.0.
  • Artists should also consider the frame types of their glasses; for instance, side shields are an option.
  • For individuals who wear prescription glasses, they can opt for clip-on lenses, or they can also have prescription safety glasses made for them.
