Glass Replacement Lenses for Your Existing Frames
Replacing your lenses can be an excellent alternative to purchasing an entirely new pair of glasses. If you have a frame that fits comfortably, looks great, or is difficult to replace, VS Eyewear can install new real glass lenses into many compatible customer-supplied frames.
Our glass lens replacement service is available for customers who need a new prescription as well as those replacing lenses because of scratches, wear, damage, or a change in how they use their eyewear.
Why Choose Real Glass Replacement Lenses?
Glass has been used as an optical lens material for generations and continues to appeal to customers who value excellent optical clarity and scratch resistance.
Compared with many plastic lens materials, glass is naturally highly resistant to everyday surface scratching. This makes it particularly attractive for people who are hard on their eyewear or simply prefer the feel and optical characteristics of traditional glass lenses.
Glass lenses do have important differences from plastic lenses. They are generally heavier and have different impact characteristics, so they are not appropriate for every frame, prescription, activity, or safety application. Our optical team can help determine whether glass is appropriate for your particular eyewear.
Keep the Frames You Already Love
Finding a comfortable frame isn't always easy. You may already own a frame that fits perfectly, has been discontinued, or simply looks better than anything you've found to replace it.
With VS Eyewear's replacement lens service, you may be able to keep that frame and replace only the lenses.
Customers commonly replace their lenses because:
- Their prescription has changed.
- Existing lenses are scratched or damaged.
- They want to convert clear eyewear into prescription sunglasses.
- They want to change from non-prescription to prescription lenses.
- They want bifocal, trifocal, progressive, or reading lenses.
- They prefer real glass over their existing plastic lenses.
- They want photochromic or polarized glass lenses.
- Their frames are still in excellent condition but the lenses are not.
Prescription Glass Replacement Lenses
VS Eyewear can produce prescription glass replacement lenses for many prescriptions and compatible frames.
Depending on your prescription, frame, and selected lens design, available options may include:
Single Vision Glass Lenses – Designed with one prescription power throughout the lens for distance, intermediate, or near vision.
Lined Bifocal Glass Lenses – Provide distance and near correction within one lens with a visible bifocal segment.
Lined Trifocal Glass Lenses – Incorporate distance, intermediate, and near viewing areas with visible segment lines.
Progressive Glass Lenses – Provide multiple viewing distances without the traditional visible bifocal or trifocal lines.
Glass Reading Lenses – Designed specifically for near-vision tasks and reading.
Availability depends upon prescription requirements, lens design, frame dimensions, and glass lens material.
Glass Sunglass Replacement Lenses
Your favorite sunglass frame may also be a candidate for glass sunglass replacement lenses.
Depending upon availability and compatibility, VS Eyewear can provide glass sunglass lenses in prescription and non-prescription configurations with various tint and specialty options.
This can be especially useful when the original lenses are scratched but the sunglass frame remains in good condition.
Polarized Glass Replacement Lenses
For customers who spend significant time outdoors, polarized glass lenses can reduce glare from reflective surfaces such as water, pavement, vehicles, and other horizontal surfaces.
Polarized glass replacement lenses combine the benefits of polarization with the scratch resistance and optical properties associated with real glass.
Availability depends upon the prescription, frame, lens configuration, and selected lens material.
Photochromic Glass Replacement Lenses
Photochromic glass lenses provide another option for customers who prefer real glass. These lenses respond to changing light conditions, becoming darker under appropriate outdoor conditions and lighter when that activating light is reduced.
VS Eyewear offers select photochromic glass lens options depending upon your prescription and frame requirements.
High-Index Glass Lenses
For certain stronger prescriptions, a high-index glass material may help reduce lens thickness compared with conventional lower-index glass.
The best material depends on several factors, including prescription strength, frame size and shape, lens measurements, and the wearer's needs. High-index glass is not automatically the best choice for every prescription, so lens selection should be based on the complete eyewear configuration.
Can Glass Lenses Be Installed in Any Frame?
No. This is particularly important when ordering glass replacement lenses.
The frame must be suitable for glass lenses, and its condition must allow the lenses to be safely fitted. Certain frame designs, materials, shapes, and mounting systems may not be appropriate for glass.
Older frames can also become brittle or weakened over time. Frames are therefore subject to evaluation before lens installation.
Rimless and certain semi-rimless designs can present additional limitations because glass does not behave like plastic lens materials during drilling, grooving, and mounting.
How the VS Eyewear Glass Lens Replacement Process Works
Choose the appropriate glass replacement lens product and select the lens type and available options needed for your eyewear. Prescription customers will also need to provide the required prescription and measurements.
After placing your order, send your frames to VS Eyewear following the provided shipping instructions.
When your frames arrive, they can be evaluated for compatibility with the selected glass lenses. The lenses are then produced according to the applicable order specifications and professionally fitted into the compatible frame.
Once completed, your finished eyewear is returned to you.
Prescription and Measurements
Accurate information is particularly important when manufacturing prescription replacement lenses.
Depending on the lens design, we may require your current eyeglass prescription, pupillary distance (PD), and additional measurements. Multifocal and progressive lenses may require measurements that relate specifically to the frame and how it sits on the wearer.
If you are unsure what information is required for your particular order, contact VS Eyewear before sending your frames.
A Practical Way to Renew Your Eyewear
You don't necessarily need to replace a good frame simply because its lenses are scratched, outdated, or no longer match your prescription.
VS Eyewear Glass Replacement Lenses provide a way to combine a compatible frame you already know and like with newly manufactured real glass lenses selected for your current vision and eyewear needs.
