Polycarbonate lenses have a thinner profile compared to regular plastic lenses because they have a higher index of refraction, which means they can bend light more efficiently. Trivex
Trivex is a type of lens material that’s similar to polycarbonate but has some added benefits. Like polycarbonate, Trivex lenses are lightweight, strong, and impact-resistant, making them great for active people or for use in safety glasses. The standard lenses have a higher Abbe value, so the quality of vision will be far superior. The difference between 1.67, which is considered regular index and 1.74 is quite small, and really, the only way you’ll notice the difference is if you have a prescription below a -6 or above a +4. However, if you are in need of a very strong prescription, it is absolutely worth the additional cost! High Index 1.90 Glass lenses are for the strongest prescriptions and are only available for eyeglasses. If your Prescription is not higher than a -8.00 or a +6.00 1.90, lenses are not for you. 1.90 Lenses are the Highest index lenses offered on the market. We Only Recommend 1.90 glass lenses for frames with small lenses to reduce the weight of your glasses because we’ve found that overall eyeglass weight plays a significant role in overall comfort.
